Jean-Paul Fitoussi, an internationally renowned economist, reflects on the centrality of language in the economic processes and monetary policies of the neo-liberal era.
“In short, it seems to me that instead of controlling language, it is language that controls us.
The same can be said for the only grammar that is in use in economics, that of Homo oeconomicus and the related theory that defines it. The procedure is this: we invent a language based on an imaginary theory (which can also be a true theory, but it does not happen often) and we use it to bend reality to our needs, to limit our understanding to the most unlikely fragment of reality”.
The author discusses it with Tarcisio Mazzeo, Director of Piedmont regional news.
The event is free but advanced reservation is required and will be available on this website from next Wednesday 5th February 2020.
